  • 7th in Britain

    Congratulations to the YGBM Tumble and Vault Team on competing in the British School’s Gymnastics Championship on Sunday 12th May in Stoke. Megan Davies, Rhys Beynon, Danielle Kerslake, Emyr Byrne and Ffion Byrne were representing the School and Wales as the competed against the 12 other regions from around the United Kingdom. The team finished 7th overall – a very impressive result to think that they are 7th in Britain!!

     

  • Spelling Bee 2013

    The 4 winners of the Year 7 French Spelling Bee competition from Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg went to Ysgol Bryn Gwyn in Llanelli on Wednesday 23rd April to compete in the South Wales regional final. Joseff Nicholas, Jack Tweddle, Grace Bradbury and Iestyn Fenn all did superbly on the day. Joseff came 1st and Jack came 2nd in the competition and both will now go on to compete in the Welsh Final in Aberystwyth to be held later this term. We wish them both the very best of luck for the final!

  • Vale Champions

    Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg’s Year 9 rugby team are the Vale Champions after beating Cowbridge Comprhensive in a close final which ended 24 – 20. The match was played in the Barry Rugby Club on Thursday 18/04/13. The Year 7 Rugby team were also competing against Cowbridge Comprehensive but were beaten 36 – 24 in a competitive final match.

    On Friday the 12th of April some pupils from year 9 were given the opportunity to visit the headquarters of Microsoft by the ICT department.  The purpose of the day was to give the pupils a taster session on games programming using their latest software ‘Kodu’.  Kodu is available as a free download for everyone.

  • South Wales Youth Speaks

    In a contest organised by Rotary, 51 contestants from 15 schools across South Wales came together on Friday 8th March to fight out the title for Youth Speaks Champions for South Wales.  The venue was Barry and Vale College who kindly agreed to host the event. The competition was held in two age groups with Intermediates representing those aged 11 to 14. And the Seniors those 15 to 17.

    In a tightly fought contest with teams of Chairman, Speaker, and Proposer of the Vote of Thanks, the intermediate team from St John Lloyd Catholic Comprehensive School in Llanelli consisting of Blaze Roper, James McMillan, and Greg David were deemed the winners and go through to the next round, while the team of Nia Fenn, Lois Aled, and Caleb Darwin of Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg in Barry were the Runners-Up. Charlotte Calvert of Howell’s school won best chairman, Lois Aled of Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg was best speaker, and Issie Mogg of Crickhowell High School gave best vote of thanks.
