Why Study BTEC Business?

The BTEC National in Business is a vocational course. The course studies the current structure of business practice in the local, regional, national and international environment.  The teaching a learning strategies will include investigations, research, observations and a collection of evidence, analysis, evaluation and planning.  Lessons will include input by outside speakers, visits to business centres, business demonstrations and presentations.  

The course will provide learners with the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

Course Content

There are 6 units to study over a period of two years.

Year 12

Unit 1: The Business Environment
Unit 2: Business Resources
Unit 4: Business Communication

Year 13

Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing.
Unit 13: Recruitment and Selection in Business
Unit 19: Developing Teams in Business

Assessment

The course is assessed through coursework format (100%).  Each unit will require the completion of all performance and coursework tasks.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE A* - C grades to include Welsh, English and Maths.  A Credit or Distinction in the Level 2 BTEC Business course would be desirable.

Possible Career

The BTEC Business course will open doors to careers in a wide range of different industries.  On completion of the course, students can choose either a career or further study within business, management, marketing, finance, accounting, insurance, banking, and economics.  It is possible to combine business with a variety of courses and it is therefore advantageous to follow a business course in school or college.
